I very briefly saw colleen this morning and she is looking much better , she has her colour back and she sort of smiled today ,she moves around and even opened her eyes.
I told her that all her friends are waiting too visit her and that everybody sends their love and she squeezed my hand ......
The nurses and doctors are please with her progess and she has been taken out of bed for the first time and put into a lovely chair for a while this will help with strenghting the lungs .

Donderdag 28 Augustus 2008 10h25
Ek het Colleen Woensdagmiddag gaan besoek. Sy het haar oe oopgemaak toe ek met haar gepraat het. Ek het gese "Colleen kan jy my sien" en sy het daarop gereageer, deur haar oe oop te maak en vir my te kyk. Ek het ook vir haar gese as sy my kan hoor moet sy my hand probeer druk, en waarlik waar het ek 'n ligte drukkie gevoel. Ek is oortuig daarvan die sy my wel kon hoor. Die longe bly steeds 'n probleem en ons vertrou dat dit vinnig beter sal gaan. Die tragie maak dit darem baie gemakliker vir haar in die sin dat sy nie meer die pyp in haar mond het nie. Asgevolg van die insit van die tragie is sy nou nog onder sedasie. Die herstel gaan 'n lang proses wees en elke dag gaan ons 'n trappie voorentoe. Ons moet geduldig wees en aanhou glo en vertrou.
Daar is soveel mense wat elke dag bel,met bemoedigende woorde of wat net wil se dat hulle aan haar dink. Dit trust is 'n toonbeeld van Colleen se gewildheid en hoeveel mense lief is vir haar, dit is net ongelooflik. Baie dankie aan almal wat Colleen bystaan deur hierdie moeilike tyd.

Colleen was taken into theatre this afternoon for the tracheotomy to be done .No complication so ALL WENT WELL ...
she has been sedated following the operation and been given pain medication .
I've heard from melt that colleen is moving around alot and is aware that the family is their " when ask if she can hear them she squeezes their hand s and is opening her eyes to see who is their.
Wonderful news ... doctors are happy with her condition .
her blood pressure does seem to go up and down ,but this is mainly pain related.
This is wonderful news ,now we just have to wait for the lungs to get stronger and the ventilator should be able to come off .
I believe in the near furture colleen will be sitting up in her bed chatting and she will recover fully .
We all miss so much ... and cant wait for that day .

WEDNESDAY MORNING
Colleen is still on the ventilator and johan has spoken with the doctors this morning ,colleens lungs are not strong enough so she needs the help of the ventilator .
They might do a tracheotomy tommorow which is normally done ,should a patient require a ventilator for more than 7-10 days . This will be better for colleen and the pipes from ventilator are uncomfortable and can cause sores ect in the throat .
she is opening her eyes now too ....
otherwise colleens blood pressure and temperature is all stable.
We are also Enquiring into getting colleen onto a medical aid ,we know it wont help right now but for the furture it will be helpful for colleen .
Should anybody have access to a medical aid or could help advise me on this please could you contact me on makeup@knetm.co.za or on my office line 0214251873

Colleen is steeds op die ventilator. Johann het vanoggend met die dokter gepraat en volgens hom is haar longe nou die krises. Dit maak dat sy nie nou van die ventilator kan afkom soos ons gehoop het nie. Ons vertrou dat dit binnekort sal verbeter. Baie dankie vir u ondersteuning ons waardeer dit.

Dit gaan baie goed met Colleen, sy is besig om baie goeie vordering te maak. Ons is so dankbaar daarvoor. Sy is steeds op die ventilator, maar hulle is besig om haar te speen. Sy haal self asem maar hulle gebruik nog die ventilator om haar te ondersteun. Sy maak haar oe oop en hou selfs Haar kop vas as sy pyn het. Sy kry egter medikasie vir die pyn. Daar is ook 'n sterk moontlikheid dat sy ons dalk mag begin herken. Dit is regtig wonderlike nuus, en ons is baie dankbaar. Baie dankie aan almal vir julle ondersteuning en gebede, hou so aan ons het dit steeds nodig.!

Colleen is breathing on her own and is only receiving minimal support from the ventilator,she is also holding her head when she feels pain ,they are giving her medication for the pain , it is a very good sign that she is moving her hands and moving her face and opening her one eye.
The nurses say that their is a good possibility that colleen will start recognising people close to her today.
PLEASE NO VISTORS ...
The trust fund has paid an total of one hundred thousand rands so far to medi clinic ,which is wonderful ,we are still needing funds ......and every cent helps .
Thank you once again for all you support and kind wishes , please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Maandag 25 Augustus 20h10
Colleen steeds stabiel, volgens Johann lyk sy goed. Sy het kleur in haar gesig. Sy is steeds op die ventilator. Hoewel sy nog nie by haar bewusyn is nie, het sy haar een oog oopgemaak. Ons kan maar net hoop dat sy binnekort dalk van die ventilator gehaal kan word. Dit sal 'n besonderse mylpaal wees as sy weer self kan asemhaal. Dit gaan 'n baie lang pad na herstel wees, so ons moet maar geduldig wees en net hoop en bid.

Colleen is stable and her temperture is down which is good news and the doctors are happy with her progress ,she will be slowly taken off life support today but this all depends on how she copes with the breathing alone ...this is very important that we dont stress the body as then the blood pressure can go up and this will stress the heart out which can lead to heart failure ......and it will take longer for her to heal .....
She is receiving the best treatment available thanks to all her friends and family who are supporting her trust fund .
This mornining my job was to phone medi clinic to find out how we are doing ....... they got to me first ...
I NEARLLY FELL OFF MY CHAIR ...
THEY NOW ESTIMATE TOTAL COST AT R500.000.00- IF ALL GOES WELL!!!!!
Our costs for one week in ICU are R90,000.00 this is only hospital bills NOT DOCTORS ...
The bad news is that we need R85,000.00 per week to keep COLLEEN IN ICU ...on life support
once off life support the cost will come down ...
We should have funds to keep colleen on life support for the next 4 days after that we will have too look at other avenues of medical treatment .

Colleen is still in ICU and stable, which we are thankful for. The surgeons are very happy with her progress on this stage. Thank you for all your support, donations, and calls, Johann, Melt and we as family really appreciates it. Currently we do not allow visitors till further notice. We also would like to request all friends not to phone the hospital to limit the high number of calls they need to deal with. I created this blog so that everyone can monitor her condition. I will update the blog twice a day with all relevant news.

Colleen is still stable and is in icu ,we dicovered this afternoon that she has pneumonia now .. this is due to the life support and doctors are treating her for it .
The family and doctors have asked that she receive NO VISITORS please until further notice as she needs the time to rest ...

COLLEEN INJURIES ....
Colleen is undergoing treatment for a very tramatic accident which has left her with a traumatic subdural haemorrage " it normal words a really serious head injury " BLEEDING ON THE BRAIN AND FRACTURES OF THE SKULL........
We have set up a trust fund for her so that she can receive the best treatment and is in icu at medi clinic ,milnerton.

Colleen het 'n ligte mate van longontsteking. Dit is egter onder beheer op die stadium. Ons is maar bekommerd vir verdere komplikasies. Ons dink dit is beter as minder mense haar op hierdie stadium besoek om verdere blootstelling aan infeksies te vermy. Baie dankie vir almal se ondersteuning dit word opreg waardeer. Dit beteken baie vir Johann, Melt en ons as familie.

Colleen, is nog steeds baie geswel. Haar toestand is op die oomblik stabiel, maar steeds kritiek. Dr Coetzee is tevrede met haar vordering en dit was nog nie nodig om 'n verdere CT Scan te doen nie. Sy het 'n effe koors onwikkel maar dit word dopgehou.

Colleen, se swelling het redelik verbeter. Hulle het die dreinpyp verwyder aangesien daar niks meer dreinering plaasgevind het nie. Sy is steeds op die ventilator en is nog nie by nie. Hulle het besluit om die sedasie te verminder, om haar neurologiese toestand beter te kan evalueer. Sy beweeg haar bene en hande. Sy kry egter morfien vir die pyn.

Colleen is steeds op 'n ventilator. Sy is baie geswel na die operasie. Dr Coetzee is tevrede met haar vordering. Haar toestand is nog steeds baie kritiek maar haar hoe bloeddruk is onder beheer.
Wednesday 20th August 2008 Afternoon
The surgeon decided he had to operate and he has removed a piece of her skull to reduce the pressure on her brain and she is now back on a ventilator in ICU.

Colleen Loubser had a bad fall off her horse on Sunday late afternoon (17 August).She does not have medical aid and so was transported to firstly Malmesbury State Hospital; then Paarl State Hospital; then yesterday afternoon (Monday) they sent her to Tygerberg Trauma Unit where they only did the CT scan at 9 last night.
Between her husband Johann and a number of friends it was felt that something needed to be done urgently as she had not received any treatment yet. It was organised for her to be transferred to Milnerton MediClinic where Colleen is now under the care of a neurosurgeon.
Colleen is now in ICU and has been sedated and placed on a ventilator to stablise her.
A trust fund has been set up for her to help with the costs of the hospital and doctors.
